A Special Visit

Today at at assembly we had some visitors from the board of trustees and the NEXT foundation. Another person who visited our school was Rachel. Mr Johnston, Rachel and Bill Kermode (the CEO of the NEXT foundation) got up on stage and talked about the Summer Learning Journey. Some students from PBS also got to talk including myself. We also got to watch a video staring one of our fellow students. The movie was about the Summer Learning Journey program. Here is a link to the video that was made.

Google Games

Today LS2 have been playing one of the google games. The point of the game is trying to get the rabbit to the carrot. You have to drag the correct arrows and put them in the tray. You also have to put the arrows in the correct order so that rabbit can get to the carrot.

Hazel's Visit - Summer Learning Journey

On Friday Hazel visited Panmure Bridge School to tell us about the Summer Learning Journey program that is held during the Christmas holidays. The program contains lots of activities. It starts on the 18th of December and ends on the 26th of January. The top three bloggers from each school will be given a prize. It is great that the year eights are still allowed to participate even though they are going to college next year. The Summer Learning Journey is great for students because when they come back to school they will improve their learning.

This week for maths we have been working on geometry activities. I have taken a screenshot of one of the activities I have completed. For this activity there were two sheets. One with the instructions and the other one to draw. We had to follow the dots link each one up until it says stop on the instruction sheet. After we finished drawing we coloured it in.

Tamaki Collage

This week on Friday we spent the morning at Tamaki collage. After our tech sessions we were split into three groups: robotics, social studies and PE. I was in robotics. First we needed to know the two main things for programming which is an event and an action. We were split into four groups of three. Two groups would work on programming the M bot and the other two groups would work on programming the M drone. Te Wai, Tiava and I worked on programming the M bot. We first made the M bot do simple things like run forward and turn left or right. Then our challenge was to program our M bot to get through a course. It would have to go around chairs and cross the finish line. We did a lot of hard work but it didn't go as planned so in the end we used the computer keys to finish the course. I really enjoyed our session of robotics with Mr Dunn and Max.

Tech Tamaki College

On Friday it was our last day at tech and we completed making our stained glass with Mr Grundy. We have had an amazing year going to Tamaki College and had a great time with the teachers that taught us how to do things. The best Technology session was with Mrs Heka because she showed us how to cook very delicious food.

Problem solving DLO

Yesterday my partner Calvin and I started creating a DLO about a problem solving Mrs Anderson gave us to do. We could use any strategy we could like to solve the maths problem. Our problem involved times tables, doubles and everything we could use to solve it. The most challenging part about this was trying to pick what strategy to use because there were heaps. I loved doing this activity and hopefully my partner did as well.
